The A620 combines two separate lens technologies that are often confused:
Photochromic (auto-tinting): The lens darkens automatically in UV light and lightens when UV is absent — indoors, in tunnels or in overcast conditions. The tint responds to UV intensity, not visible light directly.
Polarized (permanent glare filter): A fixed vertical filter in the lens that blocks horizontal glare reflected from roads, water and glass at all times — regardless of tint level.
Both functions operate simultaneously. In bright sunlight the lens is dark AND polarized. In shade or indoors the lens lightens but remains polarized. This means the A620 maintains glare protection at all tint levels — unlike unpolarized photochromic lenses that only offer tint-based brightness reduction.
One important limitation: Photochromic activation requires UV light. Car windscreens typically filter UV, so the darkening response is slower and less complete while driving than in open air. The polarization function remains fully effective inside a car regardless.
The A620 uses an alloy (stainless/mixed metal) frame — heavier than aluminium-magnesium (Al-Mg) frames but creating the thin, traditional pilot frame profile associated with aviator sunglasses. The double bridge construction (two parallel bridges connecting the lenses) is the defining architectural feature of the classic pilot/aviator shape. The slim temple arms maintain the lightweight visual character of the frame.
Adjustable silicone nose pads — the pads can be repositioned to sit at different angles on the nose bridge, accommodating different nose shapes and face geometries. Silicone is softer against skin than hard plastic nose supports and can be cleaned easily. The pads hold the frame slightly away from the face, which improves airflow and reduces fogging in humid conditions.
The temple legs use PE (polyethylene) memory material — they flex under pressure and return to shape rather than deforming permanently. The coated tips provide a softer contact surface behind the ear. Memory temples are particularly relevant for riding (motorcycles, cycling) where helmet straps and movement subject the temples to repeated flex.
The A620 is Cook Shark’s premium pilot model — the photochromic + polarized combination adds cost over a standard polarized lens. For buyers who move frequently between indoor and outdoor environments (commuting, mixed indoor/outdoor work, travel), the auto-tint function removes the need to carry and switch between two pairs. For buyers who exclusively use sunglasses outdoors in consistent bright conditions, a standard polarized lens at lower cost achieves the same result.
The A620 is built for:
vs. Cook Shark 2024 Sports Polarized — Sports polarized uses a wrap sport frame without photochromic. A620 uses the classic pilot frame with photochromic. Choose Sports Polarized for the wrap sport coverage; choose A620 for the aviator aesthetic and auto-tinting.
vs. Cook Shark Classic Men’s Sunglasses — Confirm the Classic model’s specifications for direct comparison on frame type and lens options.
