Yellow and photochromic are not the same lens. Yellow is a fixed light-enhancement lens for low light. Photochromic is an auto-darkening lens for variable bright conditions. The A571 is one of the few models at Jewelry Addicts that offers both options within the same frame.
Yellow Lens — Night Vision Explained
The yellow lens filters blue wavelengths (400–500nm) from the visible light spectrum. Blue light scattering in low-visibility conditions (rain, fog, night driving with headlight glare) creates a diffuse haze that reduces contrast. By filtering blue light, the yellow lens increases the relative contrast between objects and their background — making edges appear sharper and depth perception improve in dim conditions.
What yellow lenses do not do: They do not create light where none exists. In complete darkness a yellow lens provides no visibility advantage. The benefit is in low-light scattering conditions where blue light is the dominant source of visual noise.
Important: Yellow lenses transmit a high percentage of visible light — they are not suitable as bright-sun sunglasses. In strong direct sunlight the yellow lens will not reduce brightness adequately and may cause eye fatigue.
Photochromic Lenses (Blue and Coffee Options)
The blue and coffee lens options include photochromic auto-tinting — the lens darkens in UV light and lightens in its absence. Both also include the permanent polarized filter. As with the A620, the photochromic response is slower through UV-filtering car windscreens — the polarization function remains effective at all times regardless of tint level.
30mm Bridge Width
At 30mm the A571 has the widest bridge in the Cook Shark range. The one-piece fixed nose support (rather than separate adjustable nose pads) means the bridge width is fixed — buyers with narrower nose bridges should note this. The 30mm bridge sits the lenses further apart and higher on the nose than narrower-bridge models.
One-Piece Nose Support
The A571 uses a TR90 one-piece moulded nose support integrated into the frame rather than separate silicone nose pad inserts. The one-piece support is more stable and less prone to pad displacement, but cannot be adjusted to different nose bridge angles. For buyers with standard nose geometry the fixed support is practical. For buyers who require adjustable nose pads the A620 (silicone adjustable pads) is the alternative.
