The Watchdives WD0006 is a 38mm vintage-inspired VH31 sweep-second quartz watch — no date, no complications, just time. Domed AR-coated sapphire crystal, genuine BGW9 blue luminous on hands and all hour markers, screw-down crown and caseback, 316L stainless steel case and bracelet, 100m water resistance, 10.7mm case thickness. Seven dial colours. The WD0006B is the improved finishing version — enhanced polishing and refined case edges.

VH31 — The Sweep Second Argument

The Seiko VH31 is the defining specification of the WD0006 — it is why this watch exists and what distinguishes it from every other vintage-inspired quartz at this price.

Standard quartz: 1 beat per second. The seconds hand jumps discretely — tick, tick, tick. This is immediately recognisable as quartz and creates a mechanical disconnect with the vintage aesthetic.

VH31: 4 beats per second. The seconds hand moves in short, rapid steps that read as continuous sweep to the eye. The movement is imperceptible as individual ticks — the hand appears to glide. This is the VH31’s entire purpose.

The accuracy benefit compounds the character advantage: the VH31 is rated at ±2 seconds per day precision. This is tighter than a standard Miyota 8215 automatic (±15–20 sec/day typical) and tighter than any Seiko NH35 in normal use. The WD0006 is a more accurate watch than most automatics it stylistically references.

BGW9 Blue Luminous

BGW9 is Swiss Super-LumiNova’s blue-white grade — the lume associated with vintage Rolex and Omega dive watches, where tritium aged to a cream tone but glowed blue-white in darkness. BGW9 applies this blue-white afterglow on modern lume — it is visually distinct from the green-glow C3 used on most watches at this price.

The WD0006 applies BGW9 to both hands and all hour markers. Full coverage BGW9 on a 38mm field dial creates a vivid and uniform glow — the blue-white tone reinforces the vintage character of the domed sapphire and the clean dial architecture.

Domed Sapphire with AR Coating

The domed sapphire curves outward from the bezel — the profile creates the characteristic vintage lens appearance (shared with acrylic/hesalite crystals on older watches) with the scratch resistance of modern sapphire at Mohs 9. The AR coating reduces surface glare, maintaining dial visibility across lighting angles. The combination — dome profile plus AR — is the ideal crystal specification for a vintage-styled daily driver.

38mm × 10.7mm — The Slim Vintage Proportion

At 38mm/10.7mm/45mm lug-to-lug the WD0006 achieves vintage field watch proportions. The 10.7mm measurement includes the domed crystal — the case body is slimmer. The 38mm diameter is appropriate for the vintage aesthetic and sits proportionately on wrists from 16cm. Under cuffs the 10.7mm total height creates minimal clearance issues.

WD0006 vs WD0006B

The WD0006B is the current production refined version — enhanced case polishing with improved chamfered edge finishing and tighter quality control. Internally identical. If both are available at the same price, choose the WD0006B. If the specific dial colour you want is only in WD0006, the specification difference is minor.
