Shanghai 2L55 — Open-Heart Architecture
The 2L55 is a Shanghai Watch Factory open-heart movement with large balance wheel — 30.4mm diameter, 35 jewels, with sub-dials at 3 and 9 o’clock and big date at 12. The flywheel/open-heart display sits at 6 o’clock — the large balance wheel oscillates visibly through the front aperture at that position.
At 35 jewels the 2L55 has more jewels than the Miyota 8215 (21) or Seiko NH35 (24) — jewel count does not directly equal quality, but higher jewelling in a movement reduces friction at the additional pivoted points. The 2L55 is a specifically open-heart caliber, appropriate for the AM042M’s dial architecture.

The 2L55 drives four simultaneous displays on the AM042M:
